{"id":715,"date":"2026-06-15T13:55:24","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T18:55:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ryanfukunaga.com\/?page_id=715"},"modified":"2026-06-19T14:14:30","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T19:14:30","slug":"media-speaking","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ryanfukunaga.com\/?page_id=715","title":{"rendered":"Speaking"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Media &amp; Speaking<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the years, I&#8217;ve had the opportunity to talk publicly about the work we do at Free Geek Toronto \u2014 and, more broadly, about digital inclusion, the circular economy, and what it looks like when nonprofits and social enterprises try to build something that lasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Parliamentary Advocacy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In February 2019, I appeared as a witness before Canada&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/sencanada.ca\/en\/content\/sen\/committee\/421\/cssb\/11mn-54558-e\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/sencanada.ca\/en\/content\/sen\/committee\/421\/cssb\/11mn-54558-e\">Special Senate Committee on the Charitable Sector<\/a>, representing Free Geek Toronto and speaking to the practical challenges facing small nonprofit social enterprises. The official record of that session is available on the Senate of Canada website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Television<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>CBC Marketplace \u2014 &#8220;Which Smartphone, Laptop and Tablet Brands Break Down the Most?&#8221; (January 2021)<\/em><br>Free Geek Toronto participated in this national CBC investigation into Canada&#8217;s right-to-repair landscape, with me among the community fixers featured in the segment. Working alongside volunteers from Repair Cafe Toronto, we attempted repairs on a range of devices to demonstrate the real-world challenges consumers face when trying to fix broken technology.
