Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to talk publicly about the work we do at Free Geek Toronto \u2014 and, more broadly, about digital inclusion, the circular economy, and what it looks like when nonprofits and social enterprises try to build something that lasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parliamentary Advocacy<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In February 2019, I appeared as a witness before Canada’s Special Senate Committee on the Charitable Sector<\/a>, representing Free Geek Toronto and speaking to the practical challenges facing small nonprofit social enterprises. Television<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

CBC Marketplace \u2014 “Which Smartphone, Laptop and Tablet Brands Break Down the Most?” (January 2021)<\/em>
Free Geek Toronto participated in this national CBC investigation into Canada’s right-to-repair landscape, with me among the community fixers featured in the segment. Working alongside volunteers from Repair Cafe Toronto, we attempted repairs on a range of devices to demonstrate the real-world challenges consumers face when trying to fix broken technology. The episode surveyed more than 3,200 Canadians and aired to a national audience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The repair segment was subsequently reviewed by Louis Rossmann \u2014 one of the world’s most prominent right-to-repair advocates with 2.5 million YouTube subscribers \u2014 in his video “Let’s watch CBC’s piece on fixing gadgets<\/em>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve been invited to speak at a number of conferences on topics including digital inclusion, technology reuse, volunteer engagement, and circular economy approaches to e-waste:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
